SnowMirror team is proud to announce a new release 2.4. This version contains mainly new features and improvements requested by our customers. We regularly collect feedback from our user base and improve SnowMirror to make it easier to use and even more reliable. The main new improvement enables to re-configure SnowMirror without the need of restarting it.
Config Re-Worked
In the previous SnowMirror versions almost everything you changed in the Settings section required the whole service to be restarted. Even after the configuration wizard during the installation phase, SnowMirror automatically restarted. It was very confusing for our users. Especially if they changed ServiceNow or database settings most of them did not realize that the changes take effect only after restarting.
In SnowMirror 2.4 no restart is needed anymore. It re-configures itself automatically after the config is stored. So it is very easy to change your ServiceNow setup, database configuration or other settings. Please note that changing the ServiceNow instance does not affect the mirrored data. If you change your instance or a mirror database location we strongly recommend to perform Clean & Synchronize command manually.
Truncate Options
When performing Clean part of the sync process, SnowMirror executes a TRUNCATE SQL command. In certain situations the command fails. For example when a Microsoft SQL Server replication is on. SnowMirror 2.4 introduces new property mirror.database.cleanDataWithDeleteCommand which enables to perform Clean using a DELETE SQL command.
Improved Role Names
The original SnowMirror roles names since the very beginning were not very clear. After a small refactoring the roles and their meaning are the following:
- Super Administrator – all functionality including system settings
- Synchronization Administrator – functions to manage and trigger synchronizations
- Synchronization Supervisor – supervise and observe synchronizations, functions to trigger replications, cannot configure synchronizations
- Synchronization Reader – read-only functionality, cannot trigger replication
Existing users with Synchronization Reader role are migrated to Synchronization Supervisors
Small Enhancements
Many small features, improvements and bug fixes were implemented:
- Added notification scheme to send an email for every (including successful) synchronization run
- Action buttons were added to the top of the synchronizations table as well
- Added a Remember Me login option
- Fixed bugs in the REST API
- Improved ServiceNow Test Connection algorithm
